Thank you Toronto-Danforth for putting your trust in me to represent you at City Hall.
As you know, the 25 ward election was unfairly imposed on our city by the Ford government at the last minute. This meant that Toronto-Danforth, like many other wards, was in the difficult position of having two incumbents running for re-election along with other passionate candidates. I am very proud of the positive campaign we had in our community, with all of the candidates sharing their ideas for our new, larger ward. I’m honoured to represent such an engaged, passionate community.
I would like to particularly acknowledge Councillor Mary Fragedakis for her dedication to our community and her great campaign. It was not easy for either one of us to be forced to run against one another, and I am grateful for our friendship during the campaign and for the years to come. I thank Mary for her leadership and passion for Toronto-Danforth.
As we prepare for the new term, I am looking forward to working with my Council colleagues to improve transit and road safety, build more affordable housing, protect our waterfront, enhance green spaces and parks, take action on climate change, and so much more.
I’d like to thank everyone who participated in this election by working on local campaigns, speaking with candidates about your neighbourhood and city, and making your voice heard on Election Day. A healthy and vibrant democracy relies on your energy and strong, respectful debate. I’m humbled to be returning to City Hall to represent you for four more years, and look forward to continuing our work together.
